Passengers are facing 60 minute delays after a train hit an obstruction, believed to be scaffolding, between Reading and Didcot Parkway.

The incident happened about an hour ago near Cholsey.

All lines between Reading and Didcot Parkway have now re-opened and services are starting to resume.

Initial reports suggested it was a scaffolding pole from a bridge near Cholsey.

At about the same time fence panels blew onto the line near Reading West blocking the line to Basingstoke and Newbury.

I was travelling from PAD^» back to THA fairly late last night.

There were some delays due to this, but nothing major. I was going to catch the 2215 PAD to Temple Meads as far as RDG^▸ , but that was delayed, so jumped on the 2218 PAD-OXF^» Turbo which wasn't.

That got to RDG at around 2255 and I legged it across the Station to get the 2303 RDG-Bedwyn.

Just after boarding (and whilst catching my breath) the driver announced we would wait for a few minutes for a connecting service from London, which was the delayed 2215 to Temple Meads. It pulled in about 5 mins later! (I assume this was necessary as the 2303 is the last train beyond Newbury)

There was no mention of a delay at Reading West at that time.
