On Points West tonight, there was a report on the consultation that opened today on the re-opening of the Portishead line, and more particularly, the site of the new Portishead station.
However whoever drew the accompanying map made a major blunder. The line from Portishead was shown as crossing the Avon just east of the M5 bridge, joining the Severn Beach line, with no sign of the freight line through the Avon Gorge and into Royal Portbury Dock, whatsoever !

I hope someone has told the Department of Transport....... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

Update

The Editor of Points west has been in touch to say, that he expected better of his team and that steps would be taken to ensure this map is never seen again !

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
