Apologies if this has been mentioned elsewhere but if you fancy a nostalgic look at Cornish railways in the 60s, check out these films of the lines from Padstow-Bodmin Road, Lostwithiel-Fowey and Lostwithiel-Plymouth

From the same source, here's a clip of a round trip on the Par-Newquay branch line in the 60s - complete with a cameo scene starring a couple of class 22s.

A similar film from Westward TV▸ (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context), the reporter is John Doyle, on the St Ives branch is also on the site

Ahh - the sound and rattle of a DMU▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit).  The gearbox whine; the whistling of the air entering the vacuum brake valve, the engines.  Nostalgia ain't what it used to be.

John Doyle did a few pieces on the West Somerset Railway when I worked there.  He was quite well informed about railways in general, although that didn't always come across in the reports on the WSR he filed, back in the day.

Anyone gain extra points for noticing the Presflo cement wagons and D1000 in Truro yard?  And how about a passenger train being allowed to get that close to the bufferstops?  Hair-raising, by today's standards  Wink
