If you are bringing younger family members and / or partners tomorrow:

Warminster has become Roarminster, with a dinosaur takeover.

Warminster Town Council and the Warminster Business Network (WBN) has created a fun dinosaur trail, transforming the town with six dinosaur models installed at five locations until Saturday 5th September.

Visitors and residents will be encouraged to explore the town, find and learn about the different dinosaurs, enter a prize draw and take part in fun activities with a full programme of dinosaur events planned throughout the summer holidays.

One can only hope that there are no crew shortages, and that there are not more buses than usual requiring repairs at the same time.

The only crew shortage around this morning ...

This is due to a shortage of train crew.

I suspect that there IS enough crew around - just not enough with the route knowdlege.

Thank goodness that root knowledge with experience in the prior 6 months is NOT a requirement on route 23A which runs from Warminster, via Imber to Gore's Cross, journeys on to Brazen Bottom, Chitterne and New Zealand Camp.

A "Thumping" good day out  !!

The Hastings DMU^▸ (Diesel Multiple Unit) returns to Warminster, from Westbury, to load up for the return trip to Tonbridge.

Today was my first experience of an Imber Bus day.  I met up with grahame, and we toured (some of) the 23A route in company.

My impressions are all favourable.  I was frankly rather startled to see just how many people were queuing up to 'get a bus to Imber' at Warminster Station.  I was also amazed at how huge the military firing range on Salisbury Plain is: I'd looked at it on an Ordnance Survey map, and noted that it is quite extensive - but travelling through it, in real life, it's vast!  Lots of rusting hulks of old tanks, visible from the roadway, but with cheery warning signs saying 'These are targets - Do not try to play on them'.

Interestingly, on almost every corner and junction, there were bus enthusiast photographers (and I do not use that term in any way derogatively) who had apparently negotiated their way to such vantage points.

My thanks to grahame, for acting as my local guide during my exploration: it was a grand day out.

Glad you enjoyed the day. I was one of those numerous bus enthusiast photographers myself a couple years ago. Accompanied by my best friend.

EDIT: I never did get round to putting together a YouTube compilation from all my video and photos taken in 2024. Still have tjem all saved. One day maybe...

I saw that!  Well, I managed to get a glimpse of it, out of the droplight in a rammed unit between Warminster and Westbury (air conditioning failure).

Yesterday was my first Imberbus, my wife and I got the train from Freshford to Warminster and joined the long queue at the railway station at 0915hrs.  It took about 45mins to get on the bus to Market Lavington (we could have gone to Imber a bit earlier).
We travelled all the routes on 6 different buses and arrived back in Warminster at 1530hrs.  We had a coffee stop in Market Lavington, and a lunch stop in Tilshead.

All in all an excellent day and one I can recommend to anyone whether a bus enthusiast or not (this is the first time we'd been on a bus day like this - we'd probably do another).
After a few beers and a fantastic pizza in Warminster (The Old Fire Station) we hot footed it back to the railway station to catch a suitable train as the next 3 we could use were 1 delayed and 2 cancelled!

I'm digging around for some previous suggestions on how to add images to posts. This topic may help, but I'll see whether I can find some more definitive guidance - I'm sure we have discussed this before on the Coffee Shop forum.

An update - or even a new topic - on images with posts would make sense, and probably for me to write it with the technical server background I have.

In summary, there are two ways of sharing an image with(in) a post. The first is for you to host the image somewhere else (away from the Coffee Shop) and hot link it into your post.  The second is for you to use the forum's very limited attachment facility which you will find under "additional options" as you post.   You asked about "directions on image attaching"  and so I am, somewhat pedantically, pointing you at that, though it is by far the less flexible way of doing it.

You need the file you want to be attached on your local computer / posting device before you post, and when you "choose file" you can navigate locally and select it.  You'll note the size and number of images you can add in this way is limited, and unstated there are restrictions on the file type too,  as we don't want to be carriers of viruses and other nasties on the Coffee Shop.  I am - as I write this - attaching a picture of the 2 car 158 that called at Warminster on its way from Portsmouth to Cardiff at around 14:10 yesterday.

The presence of an attached image will ONLY be reported  / seen when you look at the individual post - so it won't be seen on things like "recents" or - as yet - on the responsive front end.   Neither will it be seen by forum guests - logged in members only.

Image hosting can take a huge amount of space we don't have ... and be a significant issue on copyright - see https://www.firstgreatwestern.info/coffeeshop/index.php?topic=32279.0 which highlights that.   We "attach light" here and it's far better if you can host using a service / server which is built for image hosting ...
