Low level platform
Lack of station signage
Lack of seating, rubbish bins, information point

I'm tempted to suggest this isn't a station that's open to the public ...

No. 6 Blackpool Pleasure Beach - disused part of exant miniature railway.

Correct. The Old Colony Railroad station in Taunton, Massachusetts. A deliberate ringer in the selection because I know how much Chris from Nailsea likes there to be at least one picture of Taunton.  Wink Tongue Grin

I've not been to my home town's namesake. The picture was found with Google. Oh,  and Taunton, Mass, is north of Birmingham, Alabama!

Sorry, no. A different 'railway' in a town whose National Rail station has also been pictured and identified...

It is currently closed. I think the line remains in use for freight. Taunton, Mass, is scheduled to get a new station on that line by 2029. See:

Correct. The Lakeside Miniature Railway. Like the tramway on the pier, recently closed. Although the LMR has been bought by the nearby Pleasureland owners who plan to rebuild and reopen it.

Clue: Both on the same, very old,  inter city line.

A very old intercity line with shiny new OLE▸ (Overhead Line Equipment, more often "OHLE") gives it away.  I assume we are talking about the Liverpool and Manchester Railway.  And the anachronistically named station is No 10, St Helens Junction.

Correct. A junction station with no junction.

By my rough and ready research I've found 3 other such stations in Great Britain with the last word 'Junction' in the name, but only serving one route.

Err ... there remains a junction in the passenger flow, with people getting off trains and headed for the fast and frequent bus service to St. Helens town centre:



From a customer viewpoint, there are a number of similar word:
Parkway:   You can drive you car and easily park it at the station, and it's near the place named
Road:  It's a bit of a way up the road from the place named - you can walk, get a taxi, lift, perhaps some buses
Junction: Change here for onward public transport to the named place
South: The centre of the named place may be found to the north of the station.

With the word "junction", I will admit to a dual use of "junction at" which may confuse.  Try getting a bus from Dovey Junction to Dovey, or from Georgemas Junction to Georgemas, for example.

But the Dovey (Dyfi) is a river and is next to the junction.  And sometimes in it! so a bus is not required to get there. Also few few people want to go there.  Now Aberdyfi....

My point is that 'Junction' stations were so named because they served more than one rail route. That's why the name is anachronistic for those stations called 'Junction' that now only serve one route.

So, in addition to St Helens Junction, what are the other anachronisticly named?
