Rusting rail station footbridge near Plymouth to be replaced
A steam train going under the St Germans footbridgeA rusting footbridge at a railway station is to be replaced this summer.
Work to remove the eyesore at St Germans starts before the end of this month.
Network Rail is to replace the bridge and install new lighting at the station in a 14-week operation ^ weather permitting.
The station near Torpoint is small and unmanned but is on the London to Penzance main line and welcomes 53,000 passengers a year.
Work is due to start on April 28 and a temporary bridge will be put in place while the old one is removed.
Lizzy Stroud, chairman of St Germans Rail Users Group, said: ^We^ve all waited a long time for this^.
Network Rail is also upgrading the lighting at the station after several passengers complained of tripping over on the platforms.
It is hoped that the new bridge will be opened in time for the Port Eliot Festival from July 24.
