St Germans Station - services, events, facilities and improvements

St Germans will have three extra weekday down-trains stopping in the summer timetable - 10.52 , 14.16 and 20.44 (this last one coming from Paddington) - as well as one extra up-train at 13.22. This will give them a weekday service of 13 trains down and 12 up - roughly equivalent to the service they had with Wessex Trains 2 years ago.

Just to let you know, the St Germans' Rail User Group has organised an exhibition taking place this week - St Germans and the Railway - 150th Anniversary.

It is being held in St Germans Parish Church, 10 00 - 17 00 from today until Saturday. If you've never been before, St Germans is a lovely village, the village itself very close to the station.

There is the Eliot Arms for refreshment too.

A rusting footbridge at a railway station is to be replaced this summer.

Work to remove the eyesore at St Germans starts before the end of this month.

Network Rail is to replace the bridge and install new lighting at the station in a 14-week operation ^ weather permitting.

The station near Torpoint is small and unmanned but is on the London to Penzance main line and welcomes 53,000 passengers a year.

Work is due to start on April 28 and a temporary bridge will be put in place while the old one is removed.

Lizzy Stroud, chairman of St Germans Rail Users Group, said: ^We^ve all waited a long time for this^.

Network Rail is also upgrading the lighting at the station after several passengers complained of tripping over on the platforms.

It is hoped that the new bridge will be opened in time for the Port Eliot Festival from July 24.

I visited the station a few weeks ago and it looks a lot worse than it does on the previous post. Will post a picture soon.

This is good news indeed. I have just paid the balance of for a summer holiday in one of Lizzy and David Stroud's camping coaches at St Germans.
