I usually work from home but once a week I need to travel from Pewsey to London for meetings, returning the same day.
- If I get a peak-time train (before 8am) the cheapest return fare is £120.00
- If I split the tickets via Newbury, the cheapest return fare is £69.70
- Total saving £50
The only catch is that the trains I use must stop at Newbury.
I need clarification from an expert on this one but I note an easement and suspect it may provide a couple of alternatives ... is a stop at Newbury needed? ... does a Pewsey to Newbury ticket cover you all the way to Reading (and if so, is that only in the case of your train not calling at Newbury?)
Without clear confirmation, the alternatives I mention are not things I am sure about, and I would not use them; they may work in theory, but they are not how the system is intended to work and might not be appreciated in certain circles.
