The Ranty Highwayman is a highways engineer. His reviews of various cycle routes and schemes always seemed to be fair and balanced.

But I find the technical bits he does about roads and paths educational. The latest is:

Covers an aspect that ordinary users wouldn't think about, but explains why some of the paths aren't in as good condition as they ought to be. Useful to be reminded that it is more than slapping some asphalt done on a bit of soil.

An interesting article, although nothing new to me.  It was interesting to see his comments on  shrinkage of London clay. Much of north Wiltshire has the same problem and as far a I know no lasting solution has been found although many things have been tried.
