Thameslink will be temporarily added to the Tube map to give customers more options during the pandemic ? putting Charlton on the map for the first time.

Services within Zone 1 and Zone 6, as well as Dartford and Swanley, will be reintroduced to Tube maps from next month to aid social distancing on public transport and reduce the number of car journeys in the capital, Transport for London confirmed this morning.

The service will also provide alternatives during the planned closure of the Bank branch of the Northern Line during 2021 while upgrades are completed.

The article goes on with a TfL^» (Transport for London - about) official explaining this is a temporary addition (and how hard it was to add!) and others suggesting it should be a permanent addition - which (I have to say) I agree with ... much prefer a total rail service map (which it still is not!) to one that selects the lines  based on which particular bunch happen to manage them.

It's a good thing to put it back on the tube map,used to be on the map some years ago iirc.
EDIT. last time it was part of the map was in fact in 1998,a gap of twenty two years.

Thameslink (central section only), the Moorgate Line, and Silverlink Metro were removed part-way through 1999, at the same time as the fully extended Jubilee Line and the DLR^▸ (Docklands Light Railway) to Lewisham were added.

When the various non-TfL^» (Transport for London - about) lines were removed initially it was a straight-forward deletion, without any redesign of the lines / stations remaining, which left odd bits of white space and a big unnecessary deviation of the Victoria Line at Highbury & Islington which had been necessary to represent it as a junction with the removed North London and the Northern City Lines but it was reduced to a non-junction 'tick'. The former line returned when it became part of the Overground and it is frankly silly that the latter still hasn't.

The all encompassing map is London Connections map although it does not seem to use that name anymore.

One side is London's Rail & Tube including everything in the GLC^▸ (Glasgow Central station) area and a bit beyond and on the other side is a London & the South East rail services which reaches out this way to Yeovil, Weymouth, and Castle Cary and Northwoods to Birmingham.
