London Euston high speed train run

Although I note it is timed at 3hr 53 min so it needs to arrive early as the Northbound record is 3hr 52min 40 sec.

The current record was set by APT^▸ -P 37 years ago.

Incidentally the Southbound record is 3hr 55 min, which is odd because surely it is downhill from Glasgow to London

According to the MD of Avanti (current West Coast operator)'s owners, “This record attempt shows how effectively rail can deliver cross-Border connectivity.” I'm not sure how much a one-off stunt shows this but it could well be latched onto by anti-HS2^▸ campaigners as further proof that a new High Speed line isn't needed.

A proof-of-concept sub - 4 hour run (4 hours 15 minutes with Crewe, Preston and Carlisle stops) is perhaps useful when looking to update services to offer a more appropriate alternative to flying. But having said that, the trips I have made on the London to Glasgow expresses are notable by how few people are making the full journey; is that because theyre's not the whole-journey traffic or because it's not serviced properly?

On time arrival if not quite a record - and in between all the normal service trains. Sub 4 hours London to Glasgow ain't bad. Compares to 7 hours 16 minutes drive (according to Google). Flight time stated as 1 hour 23 minutes ... realistically at least two hours from entering one airport to leaving the other, then you need to consider total journey and price.

RTT^» shows the same schedule for next week too. Are they having another go?
