18:27 Cardiff Central to Trowbridge due 19:51

18:27 Cardiff Central to Trowbridge due 19:51 will be cancelled.
This is due to a shortage of train crew.

A number today - Bristol to Cardiff, Trowbridge, Worcester and Taunton.   What prognosis for this year (2025)?  No reports of cancellations on the first-to-go line from Westbury to Swindon because all Sunday trains since 22nd December have been cancelled with longer notice and bus replacements provided - and such longer notice cancellations don't actually get reported as cancellations.

Time and half for rest day working agreement I’m led to believe ended yesterday. Weekend running has been pretty decent since it came into place in mid December

It's still time-and-a-half for drivers to work any additional shift.  Except on a Sunday when it is still time-and-a-quarter (and always has been apart from 22nd/29th December).

The prognosis?  Depends on the negotiations that the DfT» (Department for Transport - about) have finally allowed GWR (Great Western Railway) and the Unions to undertake to bring Sunday within the working week.  Union reps have been busy getting ideas and explaining the possible outcomes at various depots over the last week or so.

The staff at Plymouth said they had some kind of enhancement which ended at the end of yesterday.

The only thing that ended yesterday was a two week or so period of guaranteed rest day work if you applied.  It was a rather daft idea for a couple of weeks supposedly to allow drivers to catch up on outstanding training.  Provided they weren’t breaking the Hidden agreements it meant if you applied for an additional shift (Monday to Saturday, not Sunday) you were booked out to work even if there were no uncovered shifts.

Cost a lot for very little gain.

Thank you, IndustryInsider, for that ... erm ... inside information.  Lips sealed

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post - a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London, depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I’ll keep the inside information coming…

A temporary agreement has been reached for drivers for an enhancement on Sunday’s which means Sunday’s will join the current rest day work enhancement from next Sunday until the summer timetable change.

So time-and-a-half and a guaranteed payment of 9h30m, instead of time-and-a-quarter.

Should make a noticeable difference.
