You're correct ... I slipped just that one general sequence into the railway-specific ones. But I'm sure that someone will come up with a rail answer to!

Yes indeed.  I was looking at a warship sequence too, but I don't think enough have been preserved. I wonder why - personally I found them more artistic looking that the westerns.

Counting Trains

This is quite an interesting activity. In line with my big theme of par- allel structures, it presents the students with two worlds:

The Fibonacci world. A sequence of integers generated with one of the simplest of all recursive generators: . This is an abstract world which contains many unexpected patterns, some of which we will encounter here.

The trains world. A sequence of integers with a concrete realization (number of trains of a fixed length) giving us a powerful access to the surprising patterns of the Fibonacci world.

In this unit the students are challenged to provide proofs for some of the well-known Fibonacci formulae by invoking properties of the structure of trains.

It is indeed Chester ... and the order is the typical sequence of departures from Liverpool ... it's not 100% the same all the time, but once the other three have left it's pretty much certain the next one will be to Chester!
