I have a GWR (Great Western Railway) Smartcard which prior to the pandemic I used for my annual season ticket.
I am now looking to go back to the office, only occassionly at the moment, so I thought I would try and add an Off-Peak Day Return between DID (Didcot Parkway) and OXF» (Oxford - next trains) to that card.

On the GWR site the ticket type shows the 'Smartcard' symbol and I am logged into my account but I can see no option to load to my Smartcard.
I have also tried on my GWR app and again no option to deliver via Smartcard.

So my question is, is it possible to load a GWR non-season ticket to a Smartcard? And if so how?

Looking on what may be the right page (always a bit doubtful), it says of the "Touch Smartcard" (elsewhere called "smart tickets"):
Quote
Season tickets, London Travelcard and single and return journeys** (on selected routes)

**Single and return journeys can only be bought at GWR ticket offices.

On the other hand, for mobile e-tickets it says you can only buy single and return journeys.

I would now say the usual thing - "I'm sure it makes sense to someone" - except I'm not.

Thanks Stuving.
So looks like you can only buy single and return tickets on a smartcard at a ticket office.

But you have to question why does it show those tickets as smartcard compatible on the website? It maybe strictly true but of little use if I can't buy them online.

I wonder why you can buy season tickets on line for your smartcard but not daily tickets?

I have managed to answer this question by getting a Smartcard from another TOC (Train Operating Company).
The SouthEastern Key allows you load daily tickets from the App to your SmartPhone and it works for my GWR (Great Western Railway) only journey.

You could, of course, load your GWR (or any other TOC) Smartcard with your Off-Peak Day Return at any GWR ticket office.

You can load any smart enabled ticket to any TOC (Train Operating Company) branded smartcard (with 3 exceptions), it doesn't matter who/where you buy the ticket from.

Can you have two active tickets on the same card at the same time?
Example: I have a monthly ticket between Bookham and Waterloo. Can I also load a day ticket from Bookham to Brighton via Dorking?

I'm in no hurry to go back to Brighton but I'm curious whether on the next occasion I can use smartcard. I know I can already use paper ticket and e-ticket

I understand you can have up to 5 tickets on the card at a time.

I have done exactly the same. I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to load the ticket from my smartphone for a GWR one day travelcard. It worked on GWR barriers; tube and bus faultlessly

Long time thread update.

I can now answer the question I asked at the beginning of this thread.

This might have been possible for a while, but yesterday I discovered that you can now load non-season tickets from the GWR (Great Western Railway) app directly onto the GWR Touch smartcard from your smartphone using NFC.

It's worth downloading the National Rail Smartcard app from the App Store or Google Play, you can then check that the ticket has loaded and if it hasn't, it will allow you to try again.
