Rather worrying - air quality on some diesel trains worse than standing by the side of the road!

"The highest level of nitrogen dioxide was on a Hitachi Class 800 train between London Paddington and Bristol Temple Meads".

This same topic was discussed over on the IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) thread a couple of weeks back.

Already well aware thanks. A lesser issue than train length/availability and facilities.
Logged

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Not if you're prone to respiratory ailments.

Eh? Which "facilities" are more important than the quality of the air you're breathing?

Possibly the quality of the water you're drinking. But that's water, not port.

Obviously air that is seriously contaminated is a most important issue. However I am not convinced that I am exposed to any significant health risks from the air on board trains.

Give BNM some whipped cream and you could take it over nitrous oxide...
