I noticed this week at Bookham and Hounslow that the newer machines have been taken out of service and that the ticket collection machines at Waterloo appear to have been covered up. I am guessing that this is also happening across the SWR» (South Western Railway - about) network.

The sticker over the screens at Bookham and Hounslow says
Quote
This ticket machine is no longer in service.
Please use an alternative machine or why not try using our app to buy your ticket ahead of time.

I wonder what the reason is. Is there a design fault or is it cheaper to remove TVMs (Ticket Vending Machine) that they may consider to be underused?

The newer ticket vending machine at Hinton Admiral has been removed now. and the older one is just a blank lit white screen.

The newer style machine at Templecombe, same as pictured above, also has the 'not in service' sign on it.

A large number of Ticket machines at Waterloo have been removed in the last week. I estimate 12 have been removed as that's how many are in an identical bank further up the station.
