Medical advice was to drink less, not port specifically but alcohol in general.
They did not seen unduly concerned at my drinking, AFAIK ('as far as I know') "drink less" is the advice given to almost everyone.

Seemed impressed that I do not smoke and do not use any illegal drugs.

I am still remembered for being tolerant of being poked and prodded by medical students. And for being hoisted, by said students to demonstrate use of the hoist. (students hoist each other as part of training, but it was felt that a "full sized" patient was rather more realistic)

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

I think I post on behalf of all other members of the Coffee Shop forum here when I say, Best wishes for a full and swift recovery. The Pullmans need you!  Smiley

Thanks for the best wishes. I now very seldom use trains, partly due to dislike of the nasty new trains and also less need to travel.

That 'hoist' moment is absolutely brilliant, broadgage: well done you!  Grin

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Happy to have a glass of Port (or three) on a GWR (Great Western Railway) service on your behalf, broadgage. Even if you don't get it in a proper glass on the Sleeper.

Get well soon. Cheers!

Long term update.
Tests and investigations continue, and as a result I was prescribed a new (to me) drug. Colchicine.
https://www.nhs.uk/medicines/colchicine/about-colchicine/#:~:text=Colchicine%20is%20a%20medicine%20for,also%20helps%20to%20reduce%20pain.

This medicine seems effective.

That is cochineal, used until recently as the colouring agent in Campari.

I always felt a bit uneasy at killing large numbers of beetles, not for some important medical purpose, or even as food, but simply for a decorative colouring agent.

So did I, although I stopped after only a short time.
