Have I worked the operators out right?

from April 1996  - Sea Containers
from 9 December 2007, NXEC (National Express East Coast) (National Express East Coast)
from 14 November 2009, Department for Transport (East Coast subsidiary).
from 1 March 2015 - Virgin East Coast (really Stagecoach with Virgin paint)
from 23 June 2018 - London North Eastern Railway (DfT» (Department for Transport - about) again)

What a wonderful way to build a long term business.  Add in Great Central, Hull trains and Lumo ... services by Northern Scotrail, TransPenine, Thameslink, West Anglia and CrossCounty, proposal for Grand Union and it all starts getting a bit complicated.  Have I missed anything?

In each case there was an company set up for the purpose of being "the operator", and wound up when that purpose was finished.  But no-one really needs to know those names; the brand name and parent group are more relevant. The best source of this kind of information is Railway Codes (for some reason) - it even says it hopes to be comprehensive.
