This is a completely unusable service now. I live in Melksham. Yesterday I wanted to go to Bristol to attend a meeting at the old Bristol & Exeter building at Temple Meads. The timings of the Melksham trains fitted in with my requirement, but I was too scared to use them as it was important that I got there on time (and ideally home again) (preferably on the same day)

So I drove to Westbury. Cheaper parking than Chippenham, plenty of parking spaces compared to Bradford on Avon, and less chance of my car being jacked up on bricks when I got back had I parked it in Trowbridge.

What a stupid, illogical, untenable position to find myself in though, (a) having to drive at all, and (b) having to drive ten miles south in order to travel twenty five miles west.

Bit strange that, given that usually an out and back from Westbury would be cancelled if there’s a shortage of crew, rather than two unrelated ‘half trips’

It wouldn’t surprise me if the 13:15 runs from Swindon (train 2M26), and the last train of the day from Swindon, the 22:31 to Westbury (train 2M36) ends up being cancelled.

Cancellations to services between Swindon and Westbury via Melksham

Due to a fault with the signalling system at Swindon all lines are blocked. Disruption is expected until 13:30 16/12.

Train services between Swindon and Westbury via Melksham may be cancelled or delayed.

Customer Advice
A major signal outage in the Swindon area is afecting our ability to run a train service. No trains can currently move through the area, and further trains are likely to be cancelled. Specilaist teams are on site, but are currently unable to resolve the problem. We are working on alternatives, but this is likely to take time.
