In March 1873, the First Thomas Cook European Rail Timetable was publish and now over 150 years later their is still a European Rail Timetable.  Thomas Cook closed their publications section a decade ago and it is now run by a separate company, with 4 printed issues a year and a digital version too. See (here).  I carry the printed version with me on current tour and also have access to the digital data.  The printed tome is becoming less used, but it is far from redundant and even in my very light packing, it retains and will retain its place.

and here are some of the trains covered in that timetable:

Yes, we will be carrying the printed copy in our luggage as well, and I'm sure I will spend hours looking through it when we are travelling. Setting off first thing tomorrow morning.

Many thanks, and I hope yours is going well.

I won't be logging into the Coffee Shop while away, but if I come across anything of interest, I'll post it here after returning. Our trip is a bit of a whirlwind, but we will be in the Czech Republic for a couple of days, staying in Prague, and although we are most likely to stay just in the city, I am inspired by your photos to explore further into the country. But it will all be new for both of us, as we have never been to Germany or anywhere further east.

The fact that the ERT was up for sale was reported here. A buyer has now been found - this note appears on the ERT webs site (it's in the editorial to the summer 2024 edition):

STOP PRESS
We are pleased to announce that European Rail Timetable Limited has been sold to a private individual with a wide range of business interests in the travel industry, and who has been a long-term subscriber of the timetable. This means the future of the timetable is secure and that production will carry on as normal.

Summer edition posted "as usual" and with Autumn edition promised.  From my inbox:

Due to a number of technical issues affecting our production process we have made the difficult decision to delay publication of our next printed edition until the end of February. To reflect this change, the edition will be titled Spring 2026 rather than Winter 2025/26.

We know that this change to our publishing schedule will disappoint many of our loyal customers but we want you to receive a product that is accurate, up-to-date, and worth the investment you make in us.

All customers with orders for digital editions or the Winter 2025/26 edition will receive an email regarding their options early next week.

The Spring 2026 edition will be published in print format on Friday February 27, however we hope that it may be available to our direct customers earlier than this. We envisage that the digital version will be available on Friday January 23.
You can order the Spring 2026 printed edition here or the digital edition here

Ah - I wondered where it was!

This is still my printed "bible" ... and end of Feb works out OK for final planning of trips for next year.

Multiple threads running here - this is the "On the day" one celebrating the first Thomas Cook European timetable in March 1873.

The newest edition, under a new proprietor, has made some editorial changes, and these days the online planner app linked in with Interrail convey much similar and at times more details data, added to the local (country's) sources to fill in most of the rest.  Still very much a "bible" though and in spite of the weight (even on thin paper)  my copy will be travelling around Europe with me next month.
