Network Rail has said that journeys along the Heart of Wales line - that links Shrewsbury, Craven Arms and stations in mid Wales down to Swansea - between Llanwrtyd Wells and Shrewsbury have been cancelled after one of the train's wheels came off the track near Llandrindod Wells Station.

No one was injured in the incident, which occurred at "low speed" at around 7.30am on Tuesday, August 28. At the time the train was only carrying one passenger, who was travelling to Llandrindod and was escorted to the station.

Services along a major railway line in Wales have been halted after a train's wheels came off the tracks. No services will run along part of the Heart of Wales line, which runs for 121 miles between Swansea and Shrewsbury, for the remainder of Tuesday, August 27

The incident, which happened just outside Llandrindod station, is being investigated and the cancelled services are all those between between Shrewsbury and Llanwrtyd, Network Rail said. Instead trains will shuttle between Llanwrtyd and Swansea only and there will also be bus replacement services.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.
