Apologies if this has been posted already (didn't spot it in a quick search) but Uber are currently running a promotion for 10% off train tickets booked via their app: https://www.uber.com/gb/en/u/travel-uk/trains/

Ok it's 10% 'back' rather than 'off'; a colleague tells me that you get it after a week. He says it's currently scheduled to run until the end of the year, but it's already been extended a few times.

I've done a dummy run - the app isn't as easy to use as the Virgin one I'm currently using, but I'll be switching to it tomorrow.

Note of caution,if your train is delayed/cancelled and you have used UBER will they charge an admin fee(then deduct from your recompense) similar to the train line.

Hmmm useful to know. Thanks for the heads up infoman. One of the reasons I don’t use Trainline.

On the odd occasion I've claimed compensation for a ticket I've bought using the Virgin app, I use the GWR (Great Western Railway) website for my claim; as far as I know the fact I bought the ticket through Virgin doesn't come into it. Won't that still be the case if I buy through Uber?

For delays you would claim via delay repay of the train company that delayed you. For refunds because of a cancellation and no longer travelling, it goes via the point of purchase.

Thanks, Ollie  Wink

Last Friday, I suffered a significant delay to my journey (well over an hour), such that I aborted my planned journey to Taunton.  I claimed a refund online from GWR (Great Western Railway) and they provided me with a 'freepost' address sheet of A4 to just send in my tickets for them to process that.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: stop, look, listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I tried this to see how/if it worked...................no problems except.......I was sent two (apparently) identical .pdf tickets (except one was partly pink coloured). One is called Collect; one is called Mobile................ The text in the accompanying email only refers to "ticket" in the singular.  What is the difference between them ? I know it's getting late - but am I missing something b******g obvious ?

Hadn't noticed that - first time for myself this morning as well, and I'd just assumed they were separate PDFs for out/return. But both PDFs contain both legs. Same numbers/letters under the QR (QR Code - Quick Response code) codes so presumably you can use either version.

The Uber app definitely feels clunky compared to the Virgin app eg. you have to wait for the email and open the PDF; you can't see the tickets in the app. Had to approve the payment by card too, no Google pay option. I guess the duplicate tickets is just another aspect of that clunkiness?
