As a result of engineering work between Westbury and Newbury, West of England services will be diverted via the Trans Wilts. Therefore, the Trans Wilts service will be suspended and replaced by buses.

Hmmmm

* You say "suspended"

* Posters at the station say "most services" will be replaced by buses in the fine print

* GWR (Great Western Railway) have asked to inform people that "there will be a reduced train service"

In the local paper, the following article appeared in the previous edition, and at the Food and River festival it had clearly been very widely read  Wink

Therefore, the Trans Wilts service will be suspended and replaced by buses.

Of the nine "Transwilts" trains scheduled in each direction, 8 will not run.  There will be five none-stop trains (each way?) between Westbury and Swindon, running non-stop through the hamlets of Trowbridge, Melksham, Chippenham and Royal Wootton Bassett.  As far as I can see, there Will also be a single bus running up and down between Westbury and Chippenham, from where passengers will be able to transfer to trains to and from Swindon.  As it is just one bus (certainly in the evening), it will be timed substantially different to the timings of the regular train - which rather nullifies the argument that "we can't stop the trains that are passing through because they are at different times ...' - well - so is the bus!

Looking ahead there will be similar arrangements between

11th - 14th November
10th - 12th December

and after the month long closure 24th December - 23rd January

Bus replacement - 1st & 2nd Feb.

There is also work planned on the main line through Chippenham on the first and last weekends of March which will also cause disruption.

So not just Westbury that loses trains for a month between 24th December - 23rd January?

Can’t say I’m surprised. Turning two trains an hour at Trowbridge was probably going to be the maximum GWR (Great Western Railway) could do meaning Tranwilts ends up being suspended bar one peak service each way.

GWR (Great Western Railway) have issued an update on disrupted Newbury area services next week, and towards the end have included buses between Chippenham and Westbury
