I was prompted to post here my list of eight favourite films I would want to be able to watch on that proverbial desert island:

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

... aquaintences tend to think I'll enjoy any film or TV▸ (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context) show featureing a train or railway, and whilst there is sometimes some interest in that, they are overall wrong.  There is also an intense irritation at films that feature public transport or geographic locations and I know they have got it wrong.  Notting Hill delights in that the car dash across London did take a sensible route as I recall. A film we were watching the other night had "West Cornwall Station" which was actually Bodmin, and the heroine (almost) left on the London train in the current era which was still composed of Mark I carriages, and called for a brief pick up stop there which is kinda awkward when a reversal would be needed. "The Presence of Love" - 2022

Overlapping with Chris - only really Titanic; not a great one for the war films - more the romcoms.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (in my opinion the most underrated Bond film)

Close Encounters of the Third Kid


...and a special mention for A Bridge Too Far.

Edit to add that CfNs▸ (Chris from Nailsea, an administrator on this forum) inclusion of Day of the Jackal would also get a special mention from me....again the original version.

An old friend of mine, Caroline, was in that film playing someone called Gillian.  Haven't seen her for decades now, I gather she moved to the states some time back.
