What on earth is a "Ploughman's High Tea", Graham?    I guess that's what it was called on the Avanti menu........

High tea - by definition - includes a substantial savoury course, or even most of a meal, plus some other tea-time items. So specifiying what that is is not unreasonable, though you'd expect a bit more than just bread and cheese. It was not exclusively a working-class custom, as Google thinks - and my parents kept it up nearly all of their lives, that is into the 2000s.

Thanks Graham.  That looks pretty good - I guess the sausage roll was hot.

It was ... excellent and just what I needed at that time of the day.    

First Class is usually significantly more expensive, ranging to several times the price, of Standard Class but on Interrail the premium is much lower and worthwhile for the longer legs.  This offering from Avanti was a gem - honourable mention for LNER^» (London North Eastern Railway - about) too.
