Yes - confirmed for the Saturday.

There are engineering works that are planned to close the Heart of Wessex line to the south of Yeovil and the West of England main line to the west of Totnes that day (and in the days before too), and the plan is to have buses run direct to the meeting from Plymouth, and from Bournemouth/Poole with intermediate pick ups(?) at Yeovil for the meeting.

Still time to sign up for THIS FRIDAY - 24th October 2025.

TWSW is nothing if not a members organisation ... and there was a very strong view on Friday last that it should NOT be on a Saturday ... in particular, professional experts and managers who address us - from both the public transport industry and from the public sector could/would not join us.  So - while we are in very good time - a decision to switch to Friday, 6th March 2026.  I will flush the subject kine through to reflect that in due course.

You might want to review that date in the light of planned engineering work.    The line will be closed in stages between Plymouth and Exeter St Davids between 21st February and the 8th March.  Work is scheduled on two bridges during that time.

There is also a closure from Weymouth to Yeovil Pen Mill between the 28th February and 8th March.

Pickup confirmed for Yeovil

I am currently transcribing various online diary engagements into the excellent bound A4 and 'steam train' wall calendar versions which I was given, as very welcome Christmas presents.

As part of that process, I have clarified the topic heading here - and I do commend this event. I have every intention of attending - although, in previous years, Covid19 lockdown, my own (unrelated) medical issues and significant last-minute train disruption have caused me to 'fail to appear' at the last moment. Roll Eyes

However: this is planned to be a weekday mid-daytime meeting, at an excellent user-friendly venue, very close to the mainline railway station in Taunton.

I cannot make any promises in advance, but please do take into account that I (or indeed others) will be available to help with access to this meeting, if required.

Please do bookmark this meeting in your diaries - whether they be online, on paper or merely 'at the back of your mind'. Grin

I will update here, nearer the date.

I'm merely giving this topic a gentle 'bump', as we near the date of the meeting.

Please do post here your interest in attending - not least because the event organisers (I'm not one of them, by the way) can thus gauge catering requirements for the inclusive free lunch on the day.

When I mention 'gauge' and 'catering requirements', I may be casting my eyes towards Minehead - but that's an aside, and a Coffee Shop forum 'in-joke'. Grin

If you are not already a registered member of this Coffee Shop forum, please do sign up now (it's free, with no commitment whatever) and you will be able to join in our discussions.

Hope to be there but cant promise as mobility still a bit impaired.
I hope that the meeting venue is on the ground floor, or is served by a lift.

A proper intercity train has a minimum of 8 coaches, gangwayed throughout, with first at one end, and a full sized buffet car between first and standard.
It has space for cycles, surfboards, luggage etc.
A 5 car DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit) is not a proper inter-city train. The 5+5 and 9 car DMUs are almost as bad.

Just to confirm the details, the venue is the Firepool Centre for Digital Innovation, Trenchard Way, Taunton TA1 1FH.

From the down platform at Taunton railway station, go down Station Approach and the distinctive new building is directly across the A3087 Trenchard Way - there is a pedestrian crossing.

The meeting times are 10:30am to 3:15pm.

I plan to be there

... I'll be the tall bearded one in a yellow T shirt!

Rather strange apparel, for a squirrel.  Roll Eyes Wink Grin

I'm rather inclined to turn up with my own current beard, wearing a yellow T shirt, just to confuse everyone.  Grin

(As something of a spoiler, Tim's yellow T shirt is Bristol Rail Campaign, while mine is TransWilts. Lips sealed )
