Depressing.   And "19:38 Weymouth to Swindon due 22:00 will be started from Westbury" how to ruin a day out for a whole horde of people!   Let's see what advice gets added to the report for passengers.  My suggestion might be to people coming home [to Melksham] to catch the 18:45 - tell them on the way down - and change at Westbury. Mind you, JourneyCheck suggests that the 18:45 will be just two carriages which might get cosy.

Thanks, folks - really ruins the day out!   Last ever through day trip from Swindon to Weymouth operated (or not operated, to be accurate) by First Group p.l.c. Hope the nationalised system will "magic" something reliable for next year.

The Swindon-Weymouth and its return working did, in fact, run! (as I write, the northbound service is at Pen Mill).

Couldn't make it up, could you?

I couldn't, but apparently GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) can.  Roll Eyes

I was thinking of giving it a go, on that last through train to Weymouth, but I was put off by my premonition that the rail services would very likely go pear-shaped, making it difficult for me to get back home to Nailsea without a load of stress and strain.  So I didn't.  Angry

The 08:06 Warminster to Swindon was delayed 15 minutes at Westbury too; ironically, the reported delay on Journeycheck has turned out to be only 6 minutes.

No great harm done even by the 15 minute delay for passengers headed onward to London - just a shorter wait at Swindon for the Paddington train.

Edit to add - no connection failure at Chippenham off the up train either - just a shorter wait there.

Yes ridiculous chaos for the Weymouth services yesterday. On Journey Check there were a number of bus/taxi replacements shown (and in some detail). It will be interesting to know what actually operated (ie train or bus) each service in the end.

However, as per many previous comments these late changes are of no use to the average customer trying to plan their day.

Here's what ran (trains) in the end - from Real Time Trains, Weymouth via Yeovil Pen Mill

What the log does NOT tell us is how many services were advertised as cancelled and then re-instated, nor about any buses or taxis provided.   It does tell us how long, or otherwise, each train was.
