Rail operator LNER» (London North Eastern Railway - about) will reinstate a Flying Scotsman service from London’s King's Cross more than 100 years after it began operating.

A daily service – using LNER Azuma (Brand name for Class 80x trains on LNER) trains – will now depart from both Edinburgh and London at 10am and 10.30am respectively.

Historically, the Flying Scotsman operated two simultaneous 10am departures from London King’s Cross and the Scottish capital.

A name change/addition to existing services, or something new?

There's an interesting distinction between 'The Flying Scotsman' and 'A Flying Scotsman'.  Wink

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I recall in my youth travelling on these trains - running routes like Bradford to Kingswear ... which set me up for a lifetime love of train travel, even if there was a 20 year hiatus in which train travel was rare

Nice to see The Flying Scotsman returning to the northbound timetable.

A good PR (Public Relations) exercise for LNER» (London North Eastern Railway - about) would have Flying Scotsman, the locomotive, hauling the inaugural service of The Flying Scotsman out of Kings Cross  Wink
