Avoncliff no longer has a direct Weymouth train on Saturdays (or on Monday to Friday) suitable for a day trip.  On 1st August, at the request of the West Wiltshire Rail User Group, train 2O73 will make a special call there at 09:37 to help in the marketing and promotion of the station to residents who have missed this Saturday opportunity since services were recast for the Bristol Metro.  Direct trains back from Weymouth to Avoncliff at 17:34 and 20:40 that day.

Adult day return fare - £24.30. Groupsave and rail card discounts take a third off.  Children half price, babies and dogs travel free of charge when accompanied.   Buy your tickets on the day - there is no ticket machine at Avoncliff so if you join the train there you can buy from the train manager.

This Saturday - 1st August 2026 - GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) are making a special stop at Avoncliff at 09:35 on 2O73 to provide a direct service to Weymouth for residents of Avoncliff, Winsley and Westwood for a day out.

If you are reading this and coming to Weymouth that day from the WECA» (West of England Mayoral Combined Authority - about) area, please condsider taking the 08:45 Warmister train from Bristol Temple Meads (08:53 Keynsham, 09:00 Oldfield Park, 09:04 Bath Spa, 09:13 Freshford) and breaking your journey at Avoncliff - should be no extra cost / no extra ticket needed.  And have 20 minutes to look around Avoncliff Station and perhaps join in a group photo.

If you are a resident of Westwood / Winsley / Avoncliff, we look forward to seeing you on Saturday. And if you are coming to Weymouth with us, DIRECT return trains leave Weymouth at 17:34 and 20:40.

I understand that 15 people joined the train - it left a couple of minutes down but was back on time within a handful of stops. A photo appeared on my social media feeds but, as these things do, flashed by and I can't find it again. I do notice that the group photo on the platform showed everyone crammed behind the yellow line.

Big "thank you" to GWR▸ (Great Western Railway) for arranging the extra stop - really enjoyed day out, and good marketing for Avoncliff.
