From yesterday - 10th August 2026 - The BBC» (British Broadcasting Corporation - home page) - did we miss this?

Railway services to Heathrow Airport are being severely disrupted following the closure of a tunnel for safety reasons, Network Rail says.

Elizabeth line services between Hayes & Harlington and Heathrow Terminals 4 and 5 were suspended until 11:00 BST while Heathrow Express trains have been reduced by 50% with just two trains an hour from London Paddington.

Network Rail says "major disruption is expected until the end of the day" because of a water leak limiting services to one line and that tickets will be accepted on the Piccadilly line and buses 105, 278, 350 and 482.

Heathrow Express is not currently accepting Elizabeth line tickets, which has infuriated some passengers at Paddington.

With my abject apologies, I shall arrange for myself to be marched out onto the parade ground, to be shot at dawn.  Embarrassed

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Both tunnels are now in use, with both EL▸ (Elizabeth Line - Transport for London line from Reading and Heathrow in the west through central tunnels across to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east.) and HEX trains running.
