This came up on my YouTube feed - a well-preserved colour film (if somewhat shaky in places!) of a ride on the footplate of "Nunney Castle" across our patch towards the end of the harsh 1962-3 winter. I thought forum members might enjoy it-

Many thanks for posting that link, eightonedee.  Just under 13 minutes of anyone's time - well worth watching.  Cheesy

I was indeed enthralled at that historic footage - some of it taken, as you say, from the footplate.  No way anyone would be allowed to do that, in these days of Elfin Safety.  Roll Eyes

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Yes, very interesting. Note that it stopped at Stapleton Rd and then Bath, presumably bypassing Temple Meads via Rhubarb Curve. In the days before Bristol Parkway, Stapleton Rd performed a similar role to BPW▸ (Bristol Parkway station) - hence the running-in board showing ‘Bristol - Stapleton Road’.
