From the FGW▸ (First Great Western) website:

Line problem at Nailsea & Backwell.
Train services at Nailsea & Backwell are being disrupted due to emergency services dealing with an incident.Short notice alterations can be expected.
Until further notice train services will not be calling at Nailsea & Backwell.

My wife has just been down there. Police blocking both accesses to station and car park. But pedestrian access under bridge was allowed (road happens to be blocked this week for road works).

Trains are still running through though.

Yes, thanks for posting, chriselkins - and welcome to the forum, even if in somewhat sombre circumstances.

I've spent some time digging around, but I haven't been able to find any further information on this incident, other than what is in the Bristol Evening Post article.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

I went down to Nailsea & Backwell Station this morning and happened to meet the father and brother of the deceased.  Having introduced myself, I offered them our condolences, on behalf of this forum.

They are not locals, but have travelled down from Northamptonshire. I therefore gave them links to this topic and that Bristol Evening Post article, where friends of the deceased, Andrew, have started posting condolence messages.

Flowers have been tied to the railings on the steps up to Platform 1 at Nailsea & Backwell - one year on.
