Sorry to disappoint, but I'm probably younger than you grahame!

No great knowledge on my part - just information gleaned from Wikipedia. And a suspicion (now proved) that my amswering Bath Queen Square would provoke debate.  Grin

Hmm.

If "all these pictures were taken this month", I would (yet again) have been standing right next to grahame when he took that one.

William Huskisson MP (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Hanging around and taking photos in station Gents toilets can get you into all sorts of trouble. (Unless you are compiling 'Stations Made Easy' stats for NRE (National Rail Enquiries)Wink Cheesy Grin

Thanks, bignosemac!

That's exactly why I wanted to 'distance' myself from that particular photo location - I don't work for NRE (National Rail Enquiries)Grin

3 is, indeed, Westbury.   And 7 is indeed Chippenham.   My goodness - you do a lot of looking up.   5 isn't Highbridge and is discussed above  Shocked

Which leaves just 6.   And there's no way without the earlier clues that you could guess that.  "Near Chippenham, no though services from Chippenham" ... it's actually Avoncliff or (as some of the announcements seem to say Avon Cliff!)

Thanks for resolving 6, grahame!  Grin

I was working on the basis of where you might have seen a low-flying RAF (Royal Air Force) Hercules - hence my increasingly desperate attempts to locate a railway station within 'final approach' of Lyneham!  Roll Eyes

I thought "should I put this up - it's almost impossible" with number 6 ... and I was very impressed when you got as close as Chippenham.   We have "Herc"s flying over here (West Wilts) frequently, it seems; I think they do a circuit which includes Lyneham and "touch and go" training dropping off loads on the runway without even putting their full weight down at Keevil.   I'm not at Avoncliff for very long all that often - though it is one of the dog's favourite stations (gets greeted by a nice lady or gentleman at the door when she gets on, which doesn't happen at other places!)
