Am I the only person who has noticed advance ticket price rises on FGW (First Great Western) trains?  I thought there would be a thread about this.

I do a weekly return trip from Newton Abbot to Paddington, and until recently had been booking ten or so weeks in advance and getting the outward journey (0630 from NA) for around 27 standard and the return (1945 from PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains)) for around 28.50 for 1st.  Now I can get the outward journey for a best price of 34.50 standard, and the return usually for 30.  Pretty much every advance ticket price I have seen has risen, the only fall I have noticed is that I can now get the 1st class advance for 57 instead of around 89 on the outward journey.

I now often travel 1st both ways because of the price changes, but even if I travel standard I am paying quite a bit more than I was previously.  I guess FGW are pretty pleased about this!

* ps the prices I quoted are from memory so please don't hammer me if I have got some of them wrong!

After looking at NFM (National Fares Manual).
The 'new' higher fares are the same fares as they always have been. I guess the NRS quota manager has decided to limit the cheaper fares on your trains.

FRPP states the following advance fares from newton to pad

rte GREAT WESTN ONLY 820

GW» (Great Western - used as an abbreviation for the area / lines under the Great Western franchise, as opposed to FGW which includes "First", the company operating them too. For tickets - about)

I do not work for FGW (First Great Western) and posts should not be assumed and do not imply they are statements, unless explicitly stated that they are, from any TOC (Train Operating Company) including First Great Western.

No I had also noticed the cheapest 1st Advance from BTH» (Bath Spa - next trains) to PAD» (Paddington (London) - next trains) had increased but still very good value IMHO ('in my humble opinion') if you get in quick enough.

I think the fares have remained, but there are fewer pricing points.
