thats a question, lets throw up a highly unlikely possibility : for some random reason 1000 people buy a ticket for the last train back from barnstaple... no way they will fit on the train... what happens?

Wait for the next train ?  Seriously such a thing did happen a couple of years ago when one of the Rugby Six nations matches was played at Cardiff late to accomodate the TV (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context) schedules.  Several hundred people were left behind and had to catch the first train the next day.

Was at Temple Meads last afternoon (15/06) and slightly amused to see the 1521 to Cardiff formed of a 143. Absolutely rammed with Take That fans. Good work done by the staff at BRI» (Bristol Temple Meads - next trains) directing peeps to the 1530 XC (Cross Country Trains (franchise)), changing at BPW» (Bristol Parkway - next trains) for CDF» (Cardiff - next trains). Heard four PA (Public Address (broadcast loudspeaker announcements) or Passenger Assist (railway staff providing physical assistance to passengers with mobility issues), depending on context) announcements saying that the 1521 was full and directing peeps to platform 3 for the XC. These PAs were backed up by staff on platform 5 patiently telling folks to head to platform 3.

The conductor on the 1521 had to turf 2 peeps off just so he had enough room to board himself!!!!
