Veteran broadcaster Sir Jimmy Savile has died aged 84 at his home, just two days short of his 85th birthday, it has been announced.

As well as his TV▸ (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context) and radio work and the "clunk click" Public Information Films, Sir Jimmy was also known for his work on the "Age of The Train" adverts for Intercity/British Rail:

Very sad news. I'm sure many have fond memories of Sir Jimmy Savile from Jim'll Fix it on Saturday evenings to presenting Top of the Pops. Not forgetting the adverts promoting rail travel both on TV▸ (Thames Valley, or TeleVision, depending on context) and on posters at stations.

Not only Bodders as it was, but also an HST▸ (High Speed Train (Inter City class 43 125 units)) with decent Seats and quite a few tables to sit round in second class.

One of my many claims to fame...  Cheesy He asked me which end first class was on a voyager on platform 5 once at EXD» (Exeter St Davids - next trains).
