The FGW (First Great Western) site is showing trains diverted via Bath on Sunday 6th November, but there is nothing on the list of Engineering works on the website.

More seriously when you try and book a ticket it says no tickets are available please refine your search. What is going on.

All services from Bristol and South Wales diverted via the Berks and Hants on Sundays in November. No mention on the timetable alterations page because the main timetable shows the revised Sunday service:
http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/Documents/Custom/SEPT%202011%20TT/GW11S_TT01_WEB_V2.pdf

You should be able to still buy tickets though. Sorry I can't help you on that one.

Forgive me, I'm a little confused here.

Is your journey from Swindon to Cardiff with the return leg being from Cardiff on Sunday afternoon?

ellendune, can you give us more specifics on your journey and the ticket type you are after?

I don't think you can purchase advance tickets from Cardiff to Swindon and vice versa on Sundays due to engineering works with buses replacing trains to Swindon. You can still get advance tickets as I bought one from Swansea to Bristol Parkway, however that is probably because this is train all teh way and no replacement bus. Only flexibile retruns will be offered I think

When you go onto detail on the National Rail website to check the train times the detail on the trains via Bath are saying (on 4:30 departure) you need more than one ticket for this journey.  Surely this is normally a permitted route regardless of engineering works.  Is there something wrong with the website?

Yes, there does appear to be an error with fares information from National Rail Enquiries for Sunday journeys between Cardiff and Swindon during the current period of engineering in the Bristol Parkway area. That error is repeated by trainline based booking engines.

But no worries, WebTIS to the rescue! WebTIS based booking engines (redspottedhanky.com, East Coast, London Midland, Southern) will give the correct fares and supply itineraries showing a change at Bristol Temple Meads/Bath Spa or Gloucester/Cheltenham Spa.
