I reckon that's on Bath Road, in Brislington, Bristol - with the water tower above Knowle in the distance.

Probably on its way to Lowestoft to have a body added

Yes. If it was to g=have an Eastern Coach Works body then that was where it was off to.

Living in south Bristol between 1964 and 1970, these chassis movements were a very common sight.

As an occasional visitor to East Yorkshire, I've seen similar sights on the approaches to Plaxton's works just south of Scarborough relatively recently, although I cannot recall exactly how long ago.

I also remember seeing the Bristol bus chassis on the old A4 Bath Road between Reading and Newbury before the M4 opened in late 1971. My goodness it must be cold driving those things - especially approaching Scarborough or Lowestoft on winter!

Growing up in Leyland - home of Leyland Motors - we would meet these in the main street all the time - Leyland testers they were called. Can't remember the driver wearing a helmet - more like a flat cap - and he often just sat in a church hall stacking chair.

Sort of thing used to be quite frequent when bus and lorry builders sent chassis to external coach and body builders.
