However travellers be warned - a certain travel agency whose name begins with T and ends with e may tell you your train has been cancelled, when in reality it has not (eg travellers from Exeter informed that the 0505 PNZ-PAD has been cancelled, when in actual fact it starts from Plymouth!)

Yeah ... advice on anything rail related, sadly, is often to check multiple sources as the industry doesn't always get it right and current. Members would be amused in hindsight at the differing, contrary, and somewhat incorrect information available to passenger at Dorchester West on 13th September. And remember every cloud has a silver lining; I am aware of a very good friendship indeed struck up between two people who were both looking to get back to Wiltshire.

Oops - that's made it rather obvious where my vote went. 
Noting obvious [now] - multiple votes in. For members, it highlights what you voted for when you bare viewing the poll and logged in.
I have voted to tell people to check ahead, but go ahead and travel. Further advice for all public transport travel within the UK (and most of Europe) is to leave plenty of time so that you can drop back or find another way around - plan B. Advise will vary slightly depending on their lines, destinations, and characters.

From and Interrail group I am a member of - another member's answer to a first time visitor to the UK
Also avoid travelling at the weekend as there are always delays and cancellations due to engineering works and issues with staffing.
Please excuse the double negative in the question
