From Devizes and Wilts Advertiser Thursday 19 January 1911

AN ATTRACTIVE Excursion. On Saturday last a half-day excursion was run to Swindon from Devizes, the occasion being the cup tie between Swindon and Notts County. About 300 people went from Devizes, but insufficient accommodation was provided by the authorities with the result that a very large number had to stand in the rail motor.

At Holt the excursionists had to turn out and find room in a well-filled train from Trowbridge, and the train also had to pick up at Melksham, Chippenham and Dauntsey. It was a monster train by the time the railway town was reached. The excursionists made a rush for the football ground, and Devizes people were to be seen at all points.

The return journey to Devizes was spoilt by an awkward delay at Trowbridge, and apparently unnecessary "changing". Devizes was reached at 1.15 a.m.  An excursion to Swindon is always popular from this district, but more complete arrangements by the railway authorities would be appreciated.
