I am concerned at just how often this is displaying a "communications error" message rather than the correct information, and I feel I've gone blue in the face reporting it.   Does it see me coming, or have others noted a very high failure rate?

20th December - checked mid morning and late morning - both times showing error message
21st December - checked at lunchtime - showing error message

Can I ask others to add to this thread / log help point display so that I can get a real feeling for how it's doing.   Thanks!

During my many trips to and from Melksham in November I came to learn I couldn't rely on it.

I've also learnt that anything to do with Help Point faults takes an age to be rectified, be they vandalised or just not working. My experiences with the Help Point at my local station, Shirehampton, have been well documented on this forum. Touch wood, we have a consistently functioning one now, albeit one now without a screen. Ever the optimist I hope that one day we'll get overhead displays at Severn Beach Line stations.

I'm hoping he gets a smartphone from Santa  Grin

Seriously though it goes to show how much we have come to rely on these aids. Going back we just sat in ignorance and accepted it.

During the 15 minutes or so I arrive before the train there is normally some down time with it.  Sometimes it comes back up then goes again.
Thats during the 4 or 5 times I have travelled from Melksahm during Nov / Dec.  (sorry cant remember exact dates)

Was working just fine around 07.10 on 5th, 6th & 7th.

When I got off the 18.48 on 6th Jan though it claimed to be "out of action" with "replacement transport will be provided" underneath and the the lower 90% of the screen blank. As far as I am aware services either side of my train [18.03 & 19.19] ran just fine so not sure what was going on there!

I just hope nobody arrived, saw that and then thought "nope!" before turning around and leaving.

It was working before the 07.20 on Mon 12th and Tues 13th. On my return journey arriving at 18.48 both days it was not working - this time with the long winded error message claiming there is a communications issue that they are looking into.

A couple of days ago I spoke with a Telent engineer at Avonmouth station who was there rebooting a Help Point. I mentioned the well documented issues with Melksham's Help Point. Not this guys patch but he said he'd call it in.
