Castle Cary: history of small industrial site next to the station.

Does anyone happen to know more about the small (and just demolished) red brick industrial buildings with chimney next to Castle Cary station?

Edit: the site currently being redeveloped and it appears the buildings remodelled and retained.

1930 OS^▸ map shows it as a creamery.

Thanks for this. Planning applications particularly on this sort of site often involve the loss of very repurposable existing buildings, so it's good to see some of the structure retained, (and some rebuilt, see condition 20 in the planning officer's report which addresses the chimney)

"Prior to occupation of the building the chimney shown on drawing numbers shall be rebuilt to match in size,
design, form and materials, including matching size, colour and texture of brick and matching mortar the
chimney which has been removed."

The railway will be wishing it had possession of the site for car parking, mind.

Apparently, GWR^▸ already have sourced a site for car parking and this should be ready by the summer

Interesting. Certainly in the late 50s, when I was at the station most days, quite a considerable number of churns from there were transferred to the station en route to a milk depot in Kensington, London (and possibly some by ordinary train to Bristol). I don't remember there being any products other this fresh milk - but can't be sure.
