1  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: July 05, 2016, 14:00:28
The Queen Anne Gate on platform 4 would be my favoured option.

Hopefully they can encourage the current ticket barrier to be mainly used for people coming into the station and from the ticket hall, and to direct people leaving the station to use the Queen Anne Gate on platform 4. Would certainly help passenger flows up the stairs i.e. leavers on the left and the others coming in from the right. You could then successfully remodel the space outside Temple Meads to an extent i.e. new bus stops, drop offs, taxis etc
2  Journey by Journey / Shorter journeys in Plymouth and Cornwall / Re: Cornwall St Ives on: June 28, 2016, 12:39:13
Is there scope to increase capacity on the line?

Don't think there has ever been a passing loop on line, but if one can be built, where could it go?

Could trains be extended beyond 4 car?
3  Journey by Journey / Thames Valley Branches / Re: Marlow line electrification on: June 20, 2016, 09:07:15
Would it not be easier to close the current site of Bourne End Station and relocate the station, create a new curve to avoid a reversal and build the new station either on this new curve or somewhere nearby?
4  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: June 03, 2016, 14:33:30
As much as I like to have pretty looking structures, at the end of the day there have been numerous consultations and amble time for various bodies and organisations to get 100% satisfaction before any work has started.

In any event, the electrification work is years behind schedule and millions of pounds over budget. The priority is to get the job done, i.e. get the wires to Bristol, Newbury, Oxford and Swansea. Only once this has been completed should the Goring Gap be considered. We cannot allow any further delays. That's the problem with no getting fully involved with the planning stage, and that is not Network Rail's fault.
5  All across the Great Western territory / Buses and other ways to travel / Re: Cornwall bus services to be franchised by 2018 on: May 11, 2016, 09:08:24
Sounds like the best idea. It's always good to have the franchise powers available in case the partnership ideas don't
6  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Reopening of Kemble to Cirencester Branch Line (merged topic, ongoing discussion) on: May 09, 2016, 14:03:40
Its cheaper to run a bus service.

If the council provide the funds for a 6 month trial, matching whatever proposed timetable for the proposed link, lets see how many would use the service.
7  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: Great Western Main Line electrification - ongoing discussion on: April 27, 2016, 12:42:03
that would tie in with the long dwell times on the existing timetable, plus not many 125 mph areas for this route. That line and the golden valley would make sense as the first delivery of services to release some trains for the scots
8  Sideshoots - associated subjects / Campaigns for new and improved services / Re: Pilning - the station, services, viability and closure of down platform - ongoing discussion on: April 27, 2016, 12:40:01
it seems ridiculous that a silly station like pilning can remain open and cause problems such as the footbridge as electrification approaches. It's in the middle of nowhere and has less than 100 people visiting it. Seems stupid that its easier to keep it open with a parliamentary train than to close the station completely.
9  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Bristol Temple Meads Station redevelopment on: March 14, 2016, 14:57:38
Couple of queries about the redevelopment

1 - are there any plans to built 2 additional platforms in the main part of the station, i.e. in between platforms 2/3 and 5/6, provided that both platforms 2/3 and 5/6 are reconfigured to fit a new platform island in the middle

2 - what are the plans for the ticket office and entrance to underneath the platforms

3 - when the shed has its 2 platforms reinstated, how is the far side platform going to be reached - subway/footbridge

4 - when is temple meads being resignalled?

5 - presumably when temple meads is resignalled, we will see a number of new signal posts, new track layouts and replacement of lots of track?
10  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: Car parking at Kemble railway station on: March 10, 2016, 13:19:09
Thank you. It's interesting to see just how much the plans have changed over the years, but it will bring lots of benefits to the already overcrowded car park at kemble.

I'm surprised they haven't looked at developing bus services to cirencester. The existing service is poor and has lots of potential if linked to various housing developments in cirencester.
11  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Query - odd route between Yate and Parkway this morning 10/3/16 on: March 10, 2016, 10:44:58
2nd time I have got the train to Bristol in a month, and whether by chance or not, same thing happened again. Left Yate, waited for 1 minute at the next signal, then transferred on the up line to the junction and then transferred back to normal again.

This happened this morning about 7.30am.

Previously happened in the morning on 16th February.

Any reason why again. Seems very strange!
12  Journey by Journey / Swindon to Gloucester / Cheltenham / Re: Car parking at Kemble railway station on: March 10, 2016, 10:33:13
Is there a link to the planning application to see what the plans/map of the site will be once completed?
13  Journey by Journey / London to Swindon and Bristol / Re: Swindon resignalling, closure and preservation of Swindon Panel box (merged topic) on: February 22, 2016, 14:51:58
Now that Swindon has finally closed now  Cheesy, what's next on the list of signalling networks to transfer to the Didcot Signalling Centre
14  Journey by Journey / Bristol (WECA) Commuters / Re: Four track for Filton Bank - ongoing discussion on: February 22, 2016, 14:50:29
Are there any diagrams/drawings of the proposed plans by Networking Rail for the four track, especially arrangements at Filton Abbey Wood and the Bristol Temple Mead ends?
15  All across the Great Western territory / Across the West / Re: First Great Western rebrands to Great Western Railway and related department changes on: February 22, 2016, 14:49:33
Gradually starting to see more 150 units in the green paint plus the new toilet and customer informations screens. What was annoying was for the automatic announcement about the next stop, and then for the poor sounding ticket inspector to make a poor announcement copying exactly what was said  Angry pointless!

Does anyone have an up to date list of which units are due to be painted/have been painted to the new GWR (Great Western Railway)?
