A person has been hit by a train between London Paddington and Reading resulting in all lines being currently closed. Whilst emergency services attend to the incident, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised.

Major disruption is expected until 09:30.

Thoughts with all those affected.

A 5car IET (Intercity Express Train - replacement for HSTs (manufactured by Hitachi in Kobe, Japan)) has just gone through.  Presumably it will be held at Reading

Things seem to be moving now between Didcot and Reading.  7-55 ex-Goring shown 4 minutes late on Journey Check, on time on platform signs.

Stop press now shown as delayed on platform signs

Oh dear....

Should have checked Open Train Times.

Train still sat at Didcot

All trains now showing Delayed on Platform signs. Announcements inaudible.

Journey Check only refers to problems between Reading and Paddington,  no reference to Reading to Didcot.

I am going home.....

....to find that the 8-24 is about to arrive at Goring (albeit late).

The Journey Check "drop down" still only refers to problems between Reading and Paddington. I guess at least 50% of Cholsey to Reading passengers are Reading, not Paddington passengers or (like me) changing to go elsewhere. And of course seasoned London commuters would think "Oh well, I'll have to go in via Waterloo - I'll be late"!

There has been about an hour of no service, with delays and cancellations shown at the last moment, long after the trains had not departed Didcot. This is one of the busiest parts of GWR (Great Western Railway)'s network west of Reading, and Goring was the busiest I have seen since lockdown.

I appreciate that incidents like this cause dislocation, but what is the point of all these systems if they give misleading information for the passengers they are meant to help?

PS - just checked again- Journey Check showed 8-48 to Reading/Paddington 5 late at Goring a few minutes ago. Open Train Times showed no train on its way. Journey Check now changed its forecast to "Delayed".

Sort it out GWR......

It seems to be at Slough, so trains backed up from there.

A lot of Police activity around Burnham Station.

Line now open between Reading & Paddington but there's now a signal fault between Oxford & Didcot, Oxford bound line blocked.

It was indeed in the Burnham area.  It sounds like it was a case of a body being discovered rather than a driver reporting hitting someone.  It can often take longer to get the railway line back open in such circumstances as there is unlikely to be any eye witness accounts that can help understand what happened.
