Hmm.  John, I do sympathise.  It's obviously of no comfort to you, after your probably horrendous journey home, but services between Didcot and Swindon were announced as 'back to normal' at about 20:47 (it's just disappeared from the foot of the list of 'Live updates' on the FGW▸ (First Great Western) site).  Roll Eyes

It does seem to have been a really bad couple of days all across the FGW area: see http://www.savethetrain.org.uk/running.php  Shocked

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

"Level crossings are safe, unless they are used in an unsafe manner."  Discuss.

Just to be pedantic, the Waterloo & City is entirely underground, including its depot.  However, the depot has no direct rail connection and vehicles requiring heavy maintenance are lifted to the surface by a specially adapted road crane, via a purpose built shaft.

Though they didn't have to go through this cumbersome procedure until Waterloo International was built, as there was a coach lift down to the W&C but its site disappeared under the new station, hence the carry-on with cranes. Well they've done it again....I have to congratulate FGW▸ (First Great Western) twice in a week!  The trains are a bit messed up this morning with all sorts of delays but somebody had the idea of amending the 06:53 (I think) stopper from Maidenhead to just do Taplow-Slough-Paddington instead of stopping at every station.  This provided a fast journey into Paddington without the major overcrowding that I believe happened on Tuesday.

Don't know who it was....but thank you! 

Oh, and well done to the Maidenhead staff who've been keeping the station platforms clear of snow (unlike several other stations).
