London to Reading Travelcard rules

London to Reading Travelcard rules

Hello.. Today I had to get from Maidenhead to Reading, Reading to London (via SWT^▸ on slow Bracknell line) and then back from Paddington to Maidenhead..(all off peak)

I was hoping I could get a Reading to London (all zones) travelcard which would cover me on both lines and would cover all my journeys.. But because I wasn't starting in Reading I was advised this wasn't possible.. so I had to get single from Maidenhead to Reading and then buy and use the travelcard from there..

I understand this as I would be travelling out towards Reading as my first use of the ticket rather than the other way round but wonder if really I could have got away with using a travel card in this way without the extra Maidenhead to Reading single?

They should have sold it to you if you asked for it! For all they know you were being driven into Reading with a coleague!
