Transport operators in the south are making urgent contingency plans to cope with the possible tanker driver strike.

First Great Western - the biggest user of diesel in the region - is looking to increase the amount of fuel taken to its depots by rail.

It is also understood the Government will priorities deliveries to bus and rail companies. Airlines should not be hit as fuel is piped to most airfields.

The Government has begun training military personnel to drive tankers if the dispute - over health and safety training - goes ahead.

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Although off topic but connected, People need to stop panic buying because Unite have said:

It was never going to be over easter anyway, the tanker drivers are clever enough to know they get massive bonuses for working easter weekend, I've heard figures as high as ^400 a day is bank holiday pay rate for tanker drivers!

You could also argue the recent days of panic buying have drawn attention to their "cause" and put pressure on all sides to find a resolution without the drivers losing any pay.

Or argue that the allowing 11 hour days has allowed them to work longer hours. They claim that they are being over worked causing safety issues. But it's weird how when more money is available the same issues seem to vanish. Trying their luck for more cash methinks
