Eighty people travelled by train with the Melksham Railway Development Group this morning from Melksham to Swindon.   The train was seen off by the Town Criers of Melksham and Ilfracombe, and on the return trip none other but Sanat Claus was on the train ... and there were so many children who wanted to see him that he got off at Melksham Station when the train got back there to see all the others on the platform.

Many thanks to Sion Bretton who ran the group who organised the trip, Peter Blackburn who donates the sustinance, to First Great Western for strengthening the train and in many other ways, and to the other MRDG» (Melksham Railway Development Group - about) members for all their help .   Such a good time was had by all that they're already talking about next year - probably including trips to London and the seaside in addition to the Santa Special.

Melksham currently has a service of just two trains a day each way on the Swindon to Westbury line, but the Melksham Railway Development Group and "Save the Train" are campaigning for a return to an appropriate service of a train every two hours throughout the day, 7 days a week.  More information from http://www.savethetrain.org.uk
