Not seen this before but on arrival onto p6 from Reigate today we pulled into p6 behind another similar service. This was about 1600. There was an swt service on p4 and the leaf cleaning unit on p5.

Must be that time of the year already !

Well and truly.  It's not the leaf falling on the rail that causes the loss of traction problem, as the leaf dies on the tree the sap is released into the air by the leaf when this is mixed with moisture on steel rails it makes an excellent lubricant, we have quite a damp start to Autumn this year

This problem is not new, it is just that modern traction units are lighter, have a greater torque per axle and the use of disk breaks (wheel tread breaks tended to scrub the wheel clean adding adhesion) also folks get upset when Network Rail chop tress down or do some serious pollarding.

Once the rail cleaner had left p5 it was replaced by another set service so a total of 4 passenger services on the 3 platforms

Extra platform definitely come in useful then. SWT (South West Trains) had some disruption at Virginia Water around that time.

P6 does get used but not as much as P4 and P5. I think this has been discussed elsewhere on this forum but can't remember where ATM (Automated Teller Machine, or 'at the moment', depending on context).

The last few days I've noticed several trains now listed on the P6 CIS (Customer Information System), so I think they've started using it a lot more than they were a few weeks ago.

Last Monday a 166 was stabled on platform 6, I saw it at 1200 and again at 1400. I wondered if it was the extra peak unit for the North Downs services which usually runs to Reading Depot between the peaks.
