Workers had blocked off an area of the car park on Thursday so they could carry out resurfacing work on Friday. But they were in for a surprise when they were greeted by a vehicle sitting in the middle of the designated work area.

Undeterred they carried on with the work as planned and built a little ramp in front of the car to allow the owner to drive out without damaging the Mercedes.

A Network Rail spokesman said: "The motorist moved the barriers and parked in the worksite, but we've left a ramp for them to exit and will be happy to return their vehicle once they contact us."

William Huskisson MP▸ (Member of Parliament, or Mile Post (a method of measuring the railway in miles and chains from a starting point - usually London), depending on context) was the first person to be killed by a train while crossing the tracks, in 1830.  Many more have died in the same way since then.  Don't take a chance: Stop, Look, Listen.

Dont think the thread title is fair to say network rail left the driver in the lurch. The driver had moved barriers blocking off this area of the car park to park in that spot, and they built him a ramp down from the space to the dug out area.

I merely used the ITV News website's own headline as the original heading for this topic as I was quoting them, but I've now amended this topic heading to perhaps more accurately reflect the situation.  Grin

It'd gone by Monday morning, guessing the driver was a little red faced when he/she came back to get it.
