Cheapest way from London to Melksham

Now that a proper Melksham service is up and running, what would be the cheapest way of - say - doing a circuit London - Swindon - Melksham - Westbury - London (preferably being able to break journey en-route).

The London to Melksham ^48.50 Super Off Peak return seems awfully expensive, and is only valid via Swindon.

London to Melksham route: Swindon ^48.50

Then a Change of Route Excess for the return portion up to route: Any Permitted for an additional ^2.50.

Total ^51.00.

Without getting creative, and looking at specific trains for calling points that could give a combination of Day tickets, that's likely close to the best you'll find.

Two separate Advance Purchase fares may be the best bet if planning ahead.

Thanks, in the end, due to the poor connections at Westbury, I opted for the cheaper ticket and went via Chippenham.
